Upper West Side Walking Day
This Upper West Side day moves north in small steps: Lincoln Center, a bakery stop near 74th Street, the American Museum of Natural History, Zabar's and Riverside Park. The route avoids the common mistake of bouncing between Central Park and the Hudson repeatedly.

Start south and keep moving north
The Upper West Side is long enough that a good day benefits from one direction. Starting at Lincoln Center lets you move north through the neighborhood without repeating the same avenues. The route then shifts from performance architecture to residential streets, a bakery stop, the museum district around West 79th Street and finally the Hudson-side park.
Morning: Lincoln Center
Use Lincoln Center as the southern anchor rather than a quick photo stop between unrelated attractions. Walk the plaza, look at the surrounding performance buildings and check whether a tour, rehearsal or ticketed event is relevant to your date. When you are ready to move on, Broadway and Amsterdam Avenue make the northbound direction obvious.
Late morning: a short bakery stop near 74th Street
Levain's original West 74th Street location sits roughly half a mile north of Lincoln Center in a straight line. It works as a small stop, not a meal that takes over the schedule. From there, the American Museum of Natural History is only a few blocks farther north and east.
Afternoon: museum, then Broadway
The museum is the day's largest time commitment. Decide how much of it you actually want to see before entering; trying to cover every hall will push the rest of the route into the evening. Afterward, walk west to Broadway for Zabar's rather than returning south.
Finish at Riverside Park
Zabar's and Riverside Park are extremely close in this route. Pick up something useful for later, browse briefly, then finish the day at the Hudson-side park around West 79th Street. This gives the itinerary a different final landscape from the museum and Broadway blocks without creating another long transfer.
Editorial method
The itinerary uses active Manhattan NYC listings with coordinates and is validated so every consecutive stop is no more than 0.65 miles apart in straight-line distance. The route is edited to move generally north from Lincoln Center before turning west toward Riverside Park, avoiding repeated cross-neighborhood backtracking. The sequence is a geographic framework, not a promise of current admission, event, restaurant or park conditions; official opening hours and ticket requirements should be checked for the chosen date.
The route
Use the sequence as a realistic framework, then adjust reservations and opening hours to your date.

Best for: Starting with architecture and performing arts

Levain Bakery
Best for: A short bakery stop before the museum

American Museum of Natural History
Best for: The day's main indoor attraction
