Shree Maa Gouri Ganesh Bhavan
About
Outside the elevated 7 train—which chugs overhead with a clatter of tires on steel—this stretch of South Richmond Hill folds in quiet temples tucked between corner bodegas and brick duplexes. The little cream façade with maroon trim belongs to Shree Maa Gouri Ganesh Bhavan, a Hindu temple where bells ring before dawn and the scent of incense curls into the sidewalk.
Inside the plain glass lobby on the ground floor, you’ll find daily aarti, havan ceremonies and weekly bhajan sessions; monthly Satyanarayan kathas draw silver-haired regulars and late-night students closing their laptop lids. Around the corner, hot prasadam packets appear mid-morning—only five minutes by foot from 101-32 121st St.
On the sidewalk map on your phone you can pin the temple’s exact corner, then dial 718-657-0864 on the fly—no sign-up required; just follow the bilingual flip calendar tacked beside the entrance for special calendar updates. Drop in before the 2:45 p.m. puja if you need to light a ghee lamp; the doors are unlocked from six till nine daily. A quick turn just west of the station shows the walk dotted with halal carts.
