The workshop sits off Ninth Avenue, inside a pre-war building at 526 West 28th Street, Manhattan. Local keyboard players knock on the same door for regulation maintenance and one-off repairs. An old brass plate still names an earlier tenant, but now the front room is strictly devoted to tuning rods, mutes, and tuning forks. Mechanics arrive with weights hooked to felt strips; the method hasn’t moved much since the 1920s. Repeat clients drop off grands on their way to the subway.
