Green Map System
About
Digital cartography gets a communal makeover at Green Map System, a New York nonprofit that designs interactive maps for neighborhoods worldwide.
The organization builds on-the-fly maps that let locals document bike lanes, food access points, cultural sites and eco-friendly businesses in their own words and visuals. School classes, community boards and mapmakers collaborate online to keep every layer editable and open-source, then release the data under free licenses.
The team meets at 292 E 3rd St #1a in Manhattan’s Lower East Side, a block often cited as one of the city’s tightest quadrants for public services.
Print a business card or open a browser: the team can be reached at (212) 674-1631 and the step-by-step can be pulled straight from the neighborhood map.
