About

Built in 1946 and still going strong in a quiet stretch of Northern Boulevard, the Douglaston Community Theatre anchors its block as the only dedicated spot for live stage shows around here. It’s easy to miss unless you’re looking for the square brick marquee at 243-01 Northern Blvd, above the pawn shop and beside the deli with the yellow awning. Across half a century they’ve stuck to their formula: unpolished charm, local casts, and tickets that don’t demand a second mortgage.

You won’t find imported costumes or neon marquees—just the scent of popcorn and the thunk of a wooden stage floor on preview nights. When a show takes shape you’ll catch preview nights, Saturday matinees, and Sunday brunches that let the company chew scenery on a budget. (718) 482-3332 to confirm what’s in the window, or follow the link to the map if you’re rolling down Northern at 25 miles an hour and need a parking cue. You can usually grab a space in back behind the auto shop after the 6:45 curtain rises.
